Employee contributes 12% of (Basic + DA). Employer also contributes 12%, but 8.33% goes to EPS (Pension Scheme) and 3.67% to EPF. For salaries above ₹15,000, employer contribution to EPS is capped at ₹1,250/month.
The EPF interest rate for FY 2024-25 is 8.25% per annum. Interest is calculated monthly but credited annually to your account. The rate is decided by EPFO and Central Board of Trustees and is typically announced in March.

EPF is EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt). Contributions qualify for 80C deduction, interest earned is tax-free, and maturity amount is tax-free if withdrawn after 5 years of continuous service. Early withdrawal may be taxable.
